The CBN Governor is in Davos on official assignment.

Several online media blogs (Not GBETU) have published reports of a purported sack of the Governor of the Central Bank of Africa’s largest economy with some mentioning that “it was unconfirmed” even though they went ahead to publish.

Through contacts, other sources close to the presidency and the CBN Governor claim to have no knowledge of the purported sack.

The CBN Governor has been under pressure since he declared interest in running for president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Emefiele had approached the court seeking a restrain of the Board of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Attorney General of the Federation and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from hindering him from running for the office of the president.

The judge granted the order following an ex-parte motion filed by one Nkwo Augustine Eddiego against the Board of the Central Bank of Nigeria and INEC seeking an order to restrain the defendants.

However, sources indicate the Presidency was unhappy with the moves chiding him for taking INEC to court for a matter that was not in contention.

Mr. Emefiele has since withdrawn the suit against INEC and Attorney General from restraining him from contesting for President.

Also, Reno Omokri have debunked the veracity of the story, saying from his calls to top echelon in the CBN, it did not appear that Emefiele has been sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In an Instagram post, Omokri said: “I just spoke to a very top shot in the CBN about the news in some quarters that President Buhari has sacked the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele. His response is ‘as far as I know, that is false.’

“I was against Emefiele running and retaining his post. But don’t celebrate the downfall of a man God has not fallen. As long as he is not running, then he should retain his post. There are too few persons of a certain ethnicity in Buhari’s administration.

“We should pray he adds more people from their ethnicity, as long as they are competent and qualified, rather than that he sacks those already there.”

Garba Shehu, senior special assistant on media to President Buhari also told P.M.News: “Nobody here is aware of anyone being sacked”.
