Gov. David Umahi sacks 83 members of the state executive council
The State Executive Council of Ebonyi has been disbanded with immediate effect by Governor David Umahi.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Kenneth Ugbala made the announcement following the council’s meeting in Abakaliki on Friday.
He explained that the dissolution is taking place in stages, noting that the first step affected 83 of the council’s 106 members.
According to him, the SSG, Attorney General, and Commissioner for Justice Cletus Ofoke; Commissioner for Finance Orlando Nweze; and Commissioner for Information Uchenna Orji are among those who are not affected.
Others are Stanley Okoro Emegha, Commissioner for Border Peace; Chioma Nweze, SSA Investment; and Onyekachi Nwebonyi, Commissioner for Capital City.
Nweze Kings, the Commissioner for Road Infrastructure Concession, and his Works counterpart, Ogbonnaya Obasi, as well as the SSA on Welfare and Religious Matters, Rev Fr Abraham Nwali, were not affected.
The Special Assistants to the Governor for the Office of the Deputy Governor, Capital City, Finance, Parks, Media, and Medicals will also keep their jobs.
The dissolution has no effect on any of the Governor’s personal assistants.
According to Ugbala, the dissolution is to allow the administration to assess their performance.
He added that the dissolution does not mean the impacted officers’ careers are over, and that they may return after the appraisals are completed.
The SSG stated that the dissolution is being done to boost the government’s activities, which will be two years old on Saturday.
