Hijab: We’ll Fight For Our Faith – Baptist Conference

The Baptist Conference has warned the governor that imposing Muslim religion on Christians will not be allowed by Christians, stating that it will use every legal means to challenge the imposition of Muslim faith on christian institution, just as it called on the government of AbdulRahman-AbdulRazaq, to be ready to return all christian schools to the Christian mission.

As the controversy rages on, on the latest declaration by Kwara State government, led by Governor AbdulRahman-AbdulRazaq, to impose wearing on Hijab by Muslim students in Christian mission schools, angers continue to pile up.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, in Ilorin, Kwara state capital, the President Kwara Baptist conference, Reverend Victor Dada, said they were surprised that governor AbdulRahman-AbdulRazaq, could allegedly commit contempt of court on a case that is in Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Rev. Victor Dada further said: “The state even acted in contempt of court as the case is still pending before the highest court in the land – the Supreme Court.

“We want to warn the government that the step it wants to take by approving the use of Hijab for all public schools and grant-aided schools will lead to avalanche of reactions, the end of which no one can predict.

“By this move, the state government is saying the Muslims purported rights are superior to that of the Christians.

“What we are saying is that no one, not the Kwara State Government or even the Federal Government can force Hijab on our children or on our schools. We shall not hesitate to use all legitimate means to protect our heritage. We will defend our faith and protect our property. Baptist family waits for further instructions.

“In view of the foregoing, we request the return of all our schools without further delay.”

Recall that Kwara State government had been in the eye of controversy over insistence by Muslims that there children, attending Christian mission schools, should be allowed to wear hijab to schools.

The Christians said, they are against such idea, as it affects their faith, which is Christianity. Christian bodies in Kwara state reportedly suggested that the Muslim students, may seek for Muslim schools, were they can practice their religion, stating that Christian schools, are created to not only impact education, but also Christian values and believes.

In a series of meeting organized by the Kwara State government failed to convince the two parties to compromise, which made the government align with the call that Muslim students should wear hijab to Christian mission schools in the state.
