“My attention has been drawn to the continuous defection of elected APGA members of the Imo State House of Assembly to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP right from the day of the inauguration of the State House of Assembly.

As at Press time, we have recorded a number of three defections from our great party APGA to the PDP.

I wish to call on the good people of APGA to remain calm and resolute in the ongoing Rebuilding process of the party.

I also reassure our party faithfuls herein that those defectors shall in no distant time regret their actions whether collectively or individually as  arrangements and preparations are almost concluded to declare their seats vacant through a competent court of law with constitutional and territorial jurisdiction.

This is a constitutional matter which we shall use to teach them some lessons politically.

These men are Political Herdsmen that moves from one party to another with destructive tendencies just as the Fulani Herdsmen move from one farm to another with destructive tendencies.

In the instant case, the law forbids an elected parliamentarian /lawmaker to dump his/her party and decamp while holding the party’s mandate. It is a trite law and having some established judgement that has not been upturned by either any of the Appellate courts or the Supreme Court.

In fact the landmark judgement on similar cases have already become Authorities being sited by legal luminaries as well as captured in records of Nigerian Weekly Law Reports.

I hereby once again admonish our people to remain calm and go on and around with their normal businesses as we rightly know that he who laughs last laughs best.

While in the office as the Caretaker Committee Chairman, I invited these men with the intentions of Organising a seminar for them on constructive and parliamentary opposition.  Though it was not followed up by the State after the congresses but that can’t stand as an excuse to orchestrate their exit from the party.

Thanks to all our people and keep your fingers across while things and event unfold.

Long Live APGA.

Long Live Imo State…

Hon John C Iwuala
