HOW GOVERNOR UZODIMMA ATTEMPTED TO DISRUPT OBIDATTI RALLY IN OWERRI

But for the wisdom of Mr. Peter Obi and the management of the Labour Party PCC, especially in Imo State, the 6th December Labour Party presidential campaign event that held in Owerri would have been a major flop. This was following last minute conspiracies by the All Progressives Congress led Imo State government to sabotage the rally.

The Imo State PCC coordinated by Chief Martin Agbaso had concluded arrangements to hold the rally at the privately owned Kanu Nwankwo Sports Stadium after alleged application to use the State owned Dan Anyiam stadium was turned down by the Imo State Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, allegedly on the orders of the governor.

However, in a swift and unexpected turn of events, less than 12 hours to the arrival of the Labour Party presidential candidate, news went round that the governor had approved a State owned facility for the hosting of the campaign rally. This wouldn’t have made much difference if the “gift” had been made to the right officials of the campaign, but the governor rather aimed to sow confusion within the Obidient Movement in Imo State.

The governor who like other APC chieftains across the country are rattled by the rising popularity of the Labour Party across Nigeria might have determined that foiling the ObiDatti rally in Owerri would send a strong message about his commitment to the All Progressives Congress and attempt to take the sails off the wind of the Obidient Movement in Imo State.

A prominent member of the Imo State Labour Party and member of the Presidential Campaign Council of the Party who will not want his name in print praised Peter Obi’s wisdom in averting what he described as a “trap”.

“Among the many good qualities of the incoming President is that he is a wise man, who has shown good capacity to wriggle the nation out of the most complex situations.

Governor Uzodimma set us up for crisis, but Peter Obi handled everything with unusual wisdom by holding the rally at the designated place, and making a brief stop at the mischievously arranged venue. This effectively dismantled every impression the APC wanted to create of a division or crisis within the Obidient Movement.”

The Party chieftain wondered why the governor had to wait till the last minutes before approving that venue and why he didn’t make the approval to the authentic channel, which is the PCC.

“If the governor wasn’t up to some mischief, why didn’t he make this approval earlier. The governor knew about this event more than a month ago, why did he have to wait until the evening preceding the event before giving his poisoned chalice? Well we thank God that everything ended in praise and to the shame of our detractors. We thank Imolites for the solidarity and overwhelming turnout at the rally.” He concluded.
