Twitter users got their newest shock as a member of the app explained how she enjoyed eating her aunty’s baby placenta. She stated clearly in the tweet that placenta is very sweet to consume.
It all started with the question, ‘What do you do with Placenta after birth’. Many flow with the common, ‘bury it of course’ but Tweeter user “The Mo” says it should be eaten – used to make proper soup.
She tweeted –
Placenta bangs hard sha. I keep saying this. I don’t know what makes it sweet but it’s the sweetest meat I’ve consumed till date
Mo says the placenta is a very sweet meat and it is the best part of a child’s birth she always looks forward to.
Idg why you people are shouting. Is it not your family member’s placenta. Better eat that thing and see the light. Funny enough if they give you, you won’t know till they tell you it’s placenta. Say no to discrimination
I’ve come again to tell you people this. Just be around women during the after birth ritual and you’ll come back to thank me. That thing is sweet
Omo they actually dunno. It’s so sweet and the best part of child birth i look forward to from any of my aunts cos i dey chop am with them
When another Twitter user asked her how found the placentas to eat, she replied –
My aunt’s 3 babies own.
The placenta is an organ that develops in your uterus during pregnancy. This structure provides oxygen and nutrients to your growing baby and removes waste products from your baby’s blood. The placenta is expelled from your body after the birth, usually about 5 to 30 minutes after your baby is born. This is called the third stage of labour. After the baby is born you will continue to have mild contractions. You will have to give one more push to deliver the placenta.
In Africa, and Nigeria, the Placenta is considered your baby’s spiritual twin or link to the spirit world. Spiritually, it can be used to do whatever with your baby if in the wrong hands. Mostly it is buried, especially back in days, so that when a situation arises that a medical doctor or spiritual doctor cannot handle, in most cases, the placenta comes as the final solution. Imagine trying to locate it after eating it. But that would be a superstition now right?
Earlier, another user, Sansa Stark asked –
This placenta soup that some women eat after giving birth, can you do it? I mean, cook your baby’s placenta and eat it? I hear it’s very healthy and you can be certain of it not getting into the wrong hands when it’s in your belly (and sewage, eventually).
Mo replied, “It’s actually very sweet.”
“I understand the disgor on people’s face cos me too was once disgusted till my aunt gave me to taste.” She continued. “It’s healthy and sweet. The actual Goat of meats.”
“If my close friends born, I’ll join them to eat it. But my babies own, nobody will know when i finish it.”
Wait, I just want you people to answer honestly. When you give birth, you won’t eat your baby’s placenta? You’d rather bury it and sleep with the fear of someone digging the placenta grave and stealing it???
“I miss our big mummy oh. Cos once there’s a birth, the way she cooks up that shit for the new mother and does the whole after birth native ish, it’s always thrilling to watch and learn. But I’m always lurking around with spoon and beggy beggy face to eat too.”
“I pray she’ll still be alive and strong when i get pregnant and give birth. So I’ll move to her house for the 1 month of new mother ritual and pampering.
“Yup. Traditionally you’re supposed to eat it. They use it to make your first peppersoup with plenty pepper and local spices. Those spices that it’s grinding stone they use to finish work.” She concluded.
