HIV and Longevity
Q: Doctor, l want to know, let’s say you are taking your HIV & AIDS medication very well, how many years can you live? Because I know that as long you are positive you will die but after [how long] if you are taking your medication very well⚕️🎗
Duta Doctor’s Response:
Everybody will die, whether you are HIV positive or HIV negative. HIV destroys the immune system of the body. Due to this, the person is unable to fight other infections. If any such infection becomes too severe, the person can become very ill and may even die. There was a time when HIV positivity meant certain death from severe infection.
These days, very effective medication is available to suppress the virus in the body. Therefore, the immunity is high and the person does not catch severe infections.
If you are taking your medication regularly and it is able to maintain your viral load at undetectable levels, it is very likely that you will live as long as someone who is HIV negative. I hope that answers your question.
