How Technical Education will aid Industrial Growth – Prof. Odemuyiwa

Professor, Joseph Odemuyiwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor Dapo Abiodun on Technical Education, has said that the State government is fully ready to develop technical education at all levels, within public and private sectors, with the vision to train 5000 youths, in order to make them self-sufficient, self-reliant and contribute their quotas economically to the State.

Odemuyiwa who made this known while on a working visit with his team to Wessy Creation Institute, Ibara, Abeokuta, said the notion was in line with quality assurance for the certification of training centres for artisans and craftmanship in the State.

Odemuyiwa said the Institute was an accredited institution for the training of people in fashion and textile design, explaining that it was imperative to encourage the founder and others, by providing an enabling environment that would make them to thrive.

He noted that technical education would help the industrial sub-sectors and improve the overall economy of the State, if properly developed and harnessed to meet international standards.

Responding, the Chairman, Wessy Creation Group of Companies, Otunba Wasiu Taiwo, who hailed the State government for developing technical education, stated that Nigeria is blessed with vibrant youths who love fashion, saying support from government and other stakeholders would take the fashion industry to greater height.

He urged the Federal Government to tap into opportunities available in the industry to provide jobs for the teeming youths in the country, noting that the establishment of entrepreneurship acquisitions for the youths would reduce unemployment in the country.

In a related development, Prof. Odemuyiwa has that said the State government is planning to revive technical education at the secondary school level, as preparation was in top gear to make Abeokuta Grammar School, as pioneer for the initiative, because of its achievements in science and technology.

Odemuyiwa noted that government has embarked on the renovation of the technical workshops in secondary schools, to encourage students acquire technical skills that would be useful to them and the society at large.

He commended the Old Students’ Association of the School for their contributions, admonishing them to sustain its standard, in imparting technical education in students.

Responding, the Principal, Abeokuta Grammar School, (Senior), Mr. Oludare Shorinola who received the Special Adviser, appreciated the State government in its efforts at reviving technical education, and ensuring that youths were gainfully empowered and self-reliant, saying the school is ready to support the initiative.
