The Member-elect for Ideato Federal Constituency, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere has vowed to use every legal procedure available to him, to bring everyone involved in the attempted stealing of Ideato votes to book. The ebullient activist and spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) expressed regrets that those who collude to manipulate election results in the country are allowed to go scot-free, hence, giving impetus for more electoral criminality.

Ikenga who foiled the attempted diversion of the victory of PDP and Accord Party’s clear victories in the recently held House of Assembly elections in Ideato North and South accused the Imo State government of unleashing thugs and disparate criminals on Imo electorates during the election and regretted that the Nigerian Police Force and other relevant authorities could fold their hands and allow such brazen criminality to take place in Imo State.

According to him; “Evil thrive when good men refuse to do something. It is because we live in a society where criminality is celebrated that people could brazenly attempt to rewrite the results of elections which results had been collated and winners declared at various polling units, with a good number of the results already uploaded to the IREV.”

He also decried attempts by some individuals to attempt to get some corrupt elements within the electoral commission to certify their fake results, even when his team had already gone ahead to get the CTC of all the verified and true results of the election across various polling booths in Ideato North and South State Constituencies, promising that none of the perpetrators no matter how highly or lowly placed will be allowed to go unpunished.

Expressing fear over the fate of our democracy should the spate of electoral fraud and violence that marred elections across Imo State be allowed to go unchallenged, he promised to lead a formidable legal movement to ensure that genuine reforms of the electoral process are actualised.

“The law is already there and there are already promising guidelines that would have guaranteed electoral probity and the protection of our democratic rights and choices, unfortunately, people are defying these laws with impunity, and unfortunately, law enforcement agents are aiding in these criminal and treasonous activities. If we do not fight to stop them, then, we may lose our hard-fought democracy to felons.”
