Ikimi: ‘Money can’t buy Edo voters’ - What about Wrapper? #EdoDecides2020

Tom Ikimi, a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says Bola Tinubu, national leader of the party, cannot influence the September 19 governorship election in Edo state with money.

Ikimi made the statement on Tuesday at the mega rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benin, Edo state capital.

The former minister of foreign affairs was reacting to a video in which Tinubu asked the people of Edo to vote out Godwin Obaseki, the state governor, who is seeking reelection.

Making reference to the two bullion vans seen entering Tinubu’s residence on the eve of the 2019 elections, Ikimi accused Tinubu of disfiguring democracy while preaching it.

According to ThCable, he further questioned the source of Tinubu’s wealth, asking him how much he (Tinubu) had before emerging as Lagos state governor in 1999.

Ikimi asked Tinubu to mind his business, adding that he should not compare Edo to Lagos.

“I watched Tinubu early today talking about Edo election and democracy. You carry money in bullion vans to destroy democracy and you are talking about democracy for the people. Which democracy?” Ikimi asked.

“You carry money in bullion vans. Where are the bullion vans for Edo state? Have they arrived? Money cannot buy Edo State. Edo no be Lagos.

“Today, you move billions of naira all over the place. How did you make this money? On this Edo election, Tinubu, you have failed. Obaseki will defeat your candidate on Saturday and there is nothing your money can do about it.

“We have people on our side and nobody will be allowed to rig on Saturday. We don’t want a monster in Edo. Tinubu should mind his business in Lagos.”

Meanwhile, below is a trending video of Edo voters tendering PVC in exchange for wrapper ahead of election.
