Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area COVID-19 Screening Centres – – The proactive Digital Governor of Edo State, Governor Obaseki has taken the fight against the Covid-19 to the next level. At this stage, several Private Hospitals has been incorporated into Covid-19 screening centres across the state with a view to bringing the screening to community level.

This development is one of the reasons for the partial lockdown of the state. Edo State was partially lockdown to enabled the residents to go out for Covid-19 screening. It’s necessary for everybody to know his or her coronavirus status.

We visited some of the newly incorporated Private Screening Centres in Ikpoba Okha local Government Area to ascertain their level of preparedness and how they are carrying out the exercise.

One of the centres was Akugbe Medical Centre, close to Oka Market, Benin City. Behold, screening was going on there and every necessary tools were available and the medical personnels were doing their workw to excellently.

One of the screened persons, Mr. Prosper Enoruwa said,”I must say that 95 percent of Edo residents are aware that there’s coronavirus in the state. And I believe that most of them have heard about the Government precautionary’s measures to halt the spread and live healthy. So, I came here because I saw the centre on the social media. I decided to give it a try, and it was real. I have know my coronavirus today. I feel happy about it knowing fully well that I’m free from this deadly virus that have killed millions of people. ” He said happily. Then he continued.

“I want to urge our youths to encourage our parents, our friends and our younger ones to come out and do the screening. Because the fight to stop the spread of the coronavirus is now in our hands. And to stop the spread, you need to present yourself to be screened. Government have done all the necessary things, we need to play our own part too. Nobody is forcing anybody to do it, but then it’s very important for us all to do it-get screened to covid-19. The time is now,” He stressed.

Another person, Miss Esther Imade thanked the Governor for focusing on tackling the pandemic inspite of the politicking of the opposition within his party.

“I must commend our Governor Obaseki for his commitment to defeat the covid-19 pandemic in the state. Despite the fact that the state guber primary election is near, while others have already set up their campaign team, the Governor isn’t moved. He still dedicate his time to the fight against the covid-19 to keep the state safe. I believe Edo people are grateful people and they will reward him with their support and vote to continue the good work. I also thank the Governor for decentralising Covid-19 screening. I have been screened today courtesy private hospital. I will tell my family to come here and do their own too,” She assured.

True. The Covid-19 screening is in the interest of the state. The data collected from the screening will help the Government to strategies, and it’s a key to open up the state unknown to many.

Meanwhile, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area has gotten 6 additional screening centres. This is to ensure that residents in the locality are screened and by extension curtailing the continuous spread of the pandemic from the State.

The new screening centres are open from 8am to 4.30pm, with medical experts available to attend to persons; they are:
