INEC BVAS MAY BE USED IN AKURE NORTH/SOUTH FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY BYE-ELECTION ON 26/2/2022.

In a public lecture recently delivered by the former IPAC State Legal Adviser Ondo State and the Special Adviser (Orientation) Yoruba Mandate Group (YMG) worldwide, Prophet Oguntuase Foluso Joshua said INEC is technically phasing out the use of Smart Card Readers (SCR) and technologically replacing same with Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

The BVAS is a new technological convergence and a system that is multifunctional in nature and it integrates and combines 3-Stage voting process:
(1). Fingerprint (ensures fingerprint authentication during accreditation.)
(2). Face Biometric Authentication (facial authentication for identity verification of voters before voting.)
(3). INEC Results Viewing Device.(Use of SCRs, Z-Pad for upload of election results to INEC’s Central Server on Election Day.).

According to the National Senior Political Adviser (TTN), generally, the BVAS eliminates any need for the filling of incident forms during voting.

In some overseas and Nigeria elections, the use of BVAS had been tested and trusted.

Meanwhile, following the Saturday 12th FCT Area Council Poll, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it plans to review the performance and functionalities of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS ).

Mr Yahaya Bello, the FCT INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) said this when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja.

Bello said that the commission had observed challenges faced by voters due to non functionality of the BVAS and was working to address them.

“Equally, there was also the misunderstanding about what to do with the BVAS.

“The election is the only Area Council Election in this country that is being conducted by INEC and it invested heavily in the preparation for the election.

“We have Registration Area Centre Techniciains trained in order to respond to any malfunctioning of the BVAS and provided transportation for them for swift response,” he said.

Bello said that six INEC Resident Electoral Commissioners and three National Commissioners were drafted to the election to ensure it success.

“We have upcoming elections, so between now and then the issues would be looked into to avoid future challenges.
