Niger Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello has dispelled rumour that 27 students and 3 teachers abducted on Wednesday morning at Government Science College, Kagara have been released.
He said the government was in last stage of negotiations with the bandits, promising the victims would be released soon.
Also supporting, Nigerian ‘negotiator’, Sheikh Gumi said there is a positive response from the bandits who are holding the Kagara school students and their staff captive.
He, however, did not state if the students have been released.
Reports had gone round on Friday afternoon that the abductees had been released.
Sheikh Ahmad Gum earlier met and dialogued with the bandit leader known as Dogo Gide, in collaboration with some of his supporters.

Earlier, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, the foremost Islamic scholar, visited the Government House in Minna, few hours after the incident occurred on Wednesday and held a closed-door meeting with the governor in his office along with members of his entourage.
At the meeting, some close top government officials told the Nigerian Tribune that the meeting was aimed at using communication with the leaders of the dreaded bandits to resolve the incident and the need for him (Sheikh Gumi) to reach out to the bandits to release all the kidnapped students, their teachers and others unhurt.
Further checks revealed that the Islamic scholar left the Government House with his entourage for the forest in Bangi, Mariga Local Government Area of the state after the meeting with Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, and met the leaders of the infamous kidnappers/bandits, led by one Dogo Gide.
