Kwara govt. offers 50% transport fare for students returning home

Group Refutes Payment Of Outstanding Salaries In Kwara

Following the directive of the federal Government through the Nigeria Universities Commission to close Nigerian Universities for a duration of 3 weeks between February 22nd and March 14th March, 203, the Kwara State Government has declared 50 per cent transport support to Kwara students in tertiary Institutions accross the Country.

 

Commissioner for Tertiary Education Dr Alabi Afees Abolore made this known in a statement over the weekend, saying the support will be monetised and transferred to the beneficiaries after verifications.

 

This transport support for students returning home is coming barely 12 hours after Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led Administration announced free bus palliative for students of Unilorin and Kwara State Polytechnic which began on Monday, 13th February, 2023.

 

Dr. Abolore disclosed that the directive of the university’s closure came in order to allow Nigerian Students of Voting Age to exercise their civic responsibility in the forthcoming General elections accross the country.

 

The Commissioner however appreciated the efforts the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led Administration for Considering Students welfare with utmost priority.

 

Dr Abolore stated that the 50 per cent subsidy was meant to augment transportation fares for students returning to Kwara State.

 

The Commissioner also recalled that the KWSG recently offered free transportation to students who are Indegenes of Kwara State going back to school after the last protracted ASUU strike. He listed other gestures to include 100 percent increment in Bursary allowances, Scholarship for kwara indigenes in Nigerian Law Schools, as well as sponsorship of Kwara students Abroad in furtherance of their academic pursuit, among others.
