Many members of the Kwara State Road Transport Management Agency (KWARTMA) were injured as Okada riders allegedly attacked their head office along flower garden area of Ilorin on Monday, 17th June.
This attack came during a supposedly peaceful protests which later turned bloody on Monday. Prior to this, the Okada riders led a protest in front of Government House, against the state government and some security agencies for indiscriminate extortions, harassment and intimation while on their business.
After allegedly poor response from the government of Kwara, they allegedly went to the KWARTMA head office, launched massive vandalization and brutalizing their officials and looting of offenders vehicles and motorcycles.
An officer who pleaded anonymity said, “Major KWARTMA equipment were grossly vandalised, many innocent officers on duty suffered varying degree of serious bodily injuries with so many officers hospitalized as a result of the attacks.”
The Okada Riders according to reports dominated the entire KWARTMA head office, erected born-fire at the entrance, Security post was set ablaze while Patrol vehicles and some vehicles belonging to traffic offenders were seriously vandalised.

The angry protesters also carted away some motorcycles belonging to traffic offenders that were found in the premises of KWARTMA office .
In the same vein, the KWARTMA has accused the new government of nonchalance, calling it irresponsible, saying, since incidence, there have neither been any reaction from Government of kwara state or any of her representatives.
The agency is asking the government to remember that those brutally injured and admitted at various hospitals are all bread winners of their individual families whose absence would be felt had they died in the mayhem.
Other officers took to social media, expressing their frustration and demand visitation by the Governor so he could asses level of damage done to the office and the degrees of injury inflicted on officers.
We are not only demanding Government to visit our agency and see the level of damage done to our properties and the injuries sustained by our personnel but we also need directives that KWARTMA officials should go back to the roads because the workers have no confidence in their safety from the miscreants.
