Lagos 2023: Rhodes-Vivour emerges Labour Party guber candidate

Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has emerged the Governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), for the forthcoming 2023 election in Lagos state.

Rhodes-Vivour defeated Moshoid Salvador in a keenly contested substituted primary election.

He won with a slight margin of 111 to 102 votes.

Returning officer for the election, the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Bashir Apampa, said 216 delegates were registered for the exercise while three votes were declared voided.

Speaking to journalists after he was announced the winner, Mr Rhodes-Vivour said that the election was credible and transparent.

He also said that he will reach out to Mr Awamaridi, the party’s candidate recognized by the electoral body, INEC.

“He is somebody that we are going to reach out to and make sure that he is going to be part of the campaign and everything that we are ongoing,” he said.

“Because he is a strong party man. And we are going to ensure that he is carried along.”

“This is a substitution exercise, INEC is here and I’m sure by the time they publish their final list, you will see a reflection of this process that has happened.”

However, Mr Salvador condemned the electoral process.

“I reject the result in totality. I decided to be gentle, to be quiet and study what was going on,” he said.

He claimed that one of the delegates voted three times.

Mr Salvador added that the next step is “left to the party if they really want to win in the election.”

He also said that he won’t disclose his personal step in the matter.

Rhodes-Vivour, will be contending with the incumbent Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Dr. Olajide Adediran, popularly called Jandor of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2023 poll in the state.
