Lagos NURTW Crisis: Kunle Poly remanded in Prison

A Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court, has ordered that an executive of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos, Alhaji Azeez Adekunle Lawal popularly known as “Kunle Poly” be remanded in Ikoyi Prison.

 

Kunle Poly was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad over the Idumota crisis.

 

Kunle Poly was ordered to be detained at Ikoyi prison for another 30 days on Monday February 28, following the expiration of the initial order given for him to be remanded for 30 days at Zone 2 Headquarters of the Nigeria Police, Onikan-Lagos over January unrest in Idumota which led to the death of some people.

 

The suspect is the Lagos Island ‘B’ Branch chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

Lagos NURTW Crisis: Kunle Poly remanded in Prison

The NURTW executive, who is being charged with conspiracy to commit murder, murder and membership of an unlawful society, is being detained alongside one Adekanbi Wahab, aged 38.


Chief Magistrate Linda Balogun ordered that the NURTW executive be remanded for 30 days pending advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution, following an application by the prosecutor, Mr Morufu Animashaun, attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti.

 

Balogun held that there was merit in the application, before adjourning the case until March 28 for mention.
