The Lagos State Government have been accused by Elders of Ayobo for sharing One Baco Bag of Rice to 200 houses in Asepa Community Development Areas (CDAs).

The Two CDAs (Ifelodun and Ifesowapo) in Asepa, Ayaobo, Lagos, were given “half baco bag of rice and beans” to share with each other for 14days.

The Lagos State COVID-19 Emergency Food Response was initiated by the Lagos Government, at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives premises in Agege and  inspected by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday, March 27, 2020.

Briefly, on Monday, 30th March, Pan-African banking entity, UBA Group, redeemed a one billion naira donation to the Lagos State government. The amount was part of a $14 million dollar pledge by the bank to Nigeria’s coronavirus combat.

TUBA Group’s Managing Director, Kenneth Uzoka handed over the cheque to Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on behalf of the group Chairman Tony Elumelu at the Lagos State government house.

An amount of one billion naira is also to be shared among remaining 35 states with 500 million for the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Another billion will be used to purchase equipment and supplies for medical centers. An amount of 1.5 billion naira is also reserved for the bank’s overseas operations.

Later on, the former governor of Lagos state and National leader of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has donated 200 million naira (about $522,000) to the state.

He noted that the amount was to be split between the Lagos state government and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

He also outlined economic measures he believed government needed to undertake to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.

Mike Adenuga Foundation (MAF), by billionaire, Dr Mike Adenuga Jr., donated N1.5 billion to Federal Government and Lagos State government to support Nigeria’s fight against the global Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).

Mrs Bella Disu, the daughter of the billionaire, presented a cheque for N500million to the Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at his office at the State Secretariat, Alausa, on behalf of the Foundation.

Similarly, a representative of the Foundation presented the cheque for N1billion to the Governor of Central Bank, Mr Godwin Emefiele, in Abuja.

The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has donated N20 million to the Lagos State Government to support the government’s efforts in containing the spread of COVID-19.

The Registrar/Chief Executive of the institute, Seye Awojobi, made the announcement in a statement saying  the institute was committed to ensuring a safe and sound economy as well as supporting all its stakeholders to achieve healthy and sustainable development of the country.

Other individuals who donated N1billion each, he stressed include, Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu, Femi Otedola, Abdulsamad Rabiu, Herbert Wigwe, Segun Agbaje, Tim Ovie and Emmanuel Lazarus who gave N2 billion, while Atiku Abubakar gave N50 million and N10 million from Tuface Idibia.

Futher, the former Lagos State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Adewale lamented that several billions of naira have been donated by captains of industries, corporate organisation and individuals to fight the COVID-19, and yet to be accounted for to Nigerians and how it is spent in containing the virus.

Adewale said President Muhammadu Buhari had announced that a sum of N10 billion grant has been given to Lagos State, being the epicenter of the virus, while N5 billion was allocated to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

He added that corporate organisation such as Access Bank, Zenith Bank and Guaranty Trust Bank gave N1 billion each with facilities for isolation center, while the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) gave N11 billion, saying there is need for such grants to be accounted for publicly and extended beyond Lagos State, as cases are reported in other States, as part of the efforts to combat the rapid spread of coronavirus in Nigeria.

People are curious on what these billions have resulted to compared to that of other government in affected countries and states.

The elders of Ayobo have taken to social, expressing their gratitude to the state and local government and are asking all Nigerians to “help us to appreciate them for this thing that they have offered us”.
