Lokoja Tanker Explosion: We will fix Kogi roads, Osinbajo assures Bello

The Federal Government has given an assurance to the Kogi State Government that roads and other infrastructure across the state would soon receive attention.

Governor Yahaya Bello told State House Correspondents on Thursday after a meeting with Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Bello earlier lamented that the deplorable state of federal roads in the state has led to many accidents, while commenting on the recent tanker explosion that claimed many lives.

The governor, while praising the Federal Government for paying attention to infrastructure nationwide in recent years, emphasised the need for Kogi to get prime attention, noting that it serves as the link between the north and the south ends of the country.

“The Vice President is a very caring father and is concerned about what happens in Kogi State, particularly yesterday’s sad and unfortunate incident that claimed the lives of innocent citizens.

“So our discussion was very fruitful, he expressed his sympathy to the families of those that lost their loved ones and promised to ensure the government brings succour to the bereaved.

On the way forward after visiting the Works and Housing Minister Babatunde Fashola, Bello said part of the commitment extracted was the immediate deployment of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), to fix the spot which claimed lives on Wednesday.
