The Police in Lagos State have arrested Ayo Adenupebi, a 20-year-old resident of Ise town in Akodo.
Detectives at the Akodo Division arrested him for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old minor (name withheld) who lives on the same street.
Police spokesman, Adekunle Ajisebutu, in a statement on Wednesday, said the October 1 incident was reported after the victim’s elder sister noticed blood stains on her thigh.
When asked, the victim revealed that the suspect raped and warned her against telling parents or anyone.
Following a formal report by the victim’s father, officers tracked and arrested Adenupebi.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime but pleaded for leniency”, the Public Relations Officer disclosed.
The victim has been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, directed that the suspect be transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation and prosecution.
The CP condemned the criminal act and advised parents and guardians to always keep an eye on their children and wards.
