Man in court for flogging IKEDC official

A 44-year-old man, Jimmy George, who allegedly flogged an Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) official with a stick, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 28th June.

Jimmy George, a resident of Gowon Estate, Egbeda is facing charge of assault.

George, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him.

The Prosecutor, ASP Peter Nwangwu, told the court that George committed the offence on May 27, at his residence.

He alleged that the defendant unlawfully assaulted the IKEDC official, Mr Omoregbe Lamwenma, while discharging his lawful duty.

According to Nwangwu, “The complainant said that the defendant had refused to pay his electricity bills and when he tried to cut off their power supply, the defendant started flogging him with a stick.

”Lamwenma reported the case to the police and George was arrested for questioning.

The Prosecutor noted that the offence contravened the provision of Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015. Sections 173 prescribes three years imprisonment for assault occasioning harm.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y.O Aje-Afunwa, granted the defendant bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
