Maria Oredola Igbinedion: Dominion Okoro, Four Others, Arraign In Court Over Murder

Dominion Okoro of Igbinedion to die by hanging

Dominion Okoro and four others were on Tuesday, 4 January 2022, arraigned in o criminal court in Benin City, Edo State.

 

The accused persons were arraigned for various roles in the murder of Madam Maria Oredola Igbinedion, the mother of the former Governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Nosakhaire Igbinedion.

 

The accused persons are Dominion Okoro, Patience Okoro, Francis Tagan, Abraham Kuje and Ezekiel Danjuma.

 

Recall how Dominion Okoro, carer of 85-year-old woman murdered her in her private residence in Ugbor, on 2 December 2021.

 

The five accused persons were arraigned with seven-count charges, including murder.

 

Some of the charges read, “You Dominion Okoro, a cook on the 2 December 2021 did unlawfully kill madam Maria Oredola Igbinedion thereby committed an offence punishable under section 319(1) of the criminal code”.

 

“You Dominion Okoro did attack and robbed Mrs. Maria Oredola Igbinedion of the sum of N100,000 and a Golden wristwatch while armed with offensive weapon which was a wooden stool”, the second offence read.



Other accused persons who were domestic staff of the late octogenarian were charged for the negligence of duty, which resulted in the woman’s death.

 

The presiding Judge Hon. Justice Efe Ikpomwonba, who heard the matter in her inner chamber, ordered the five accused persons to be remanded in prison custody.

 

The case was adjourned to 26 January 2022.

 

The officer in charge of Legal Services, Edo State Police Command, CSP P. O. Ogwumba, said the five persons were charged to court after completing their investigation.
