MG Moundhey Gadzama explains how Gana was Killed

Major General Moundhey Gadzama Ali has explained how Benue State Amnesty beneficiary and most wanted criminal, Terwase Akwaza, alias Gana was killed.

According to Gadzama, Gana was killed by the operation AYEM APKATUMA III of the Nigerian military after a gun battle.

Recall Gana had surrendered for the amnesty programme, led by Gov. Samuel Ortom, in Katsina-Ala township stadium in Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue North senatorial zone on Tuesday, September 8.

Ortom said Gana had surrendered to the Amnesty programme of his administration and was being escorted to Makurdi on Tuesday when troops of the operation whirl stroke arrested him at a security checkpoint on the outskirts of Gboko.

This was the second time he was giving up himself after surrendering catchment of arms and ammunition to Benue amnesty programme of Governor Samuel Ortom, which he granted to restive youths in his first tenure.

Addressing reporters on Tuesday night in Doma LGA of Nasarawa state, headquarters of the 4 Special Forces Command where the lifeless body of Gana was paraded, the Commandant, Major General Moundhey Gadzama Ali said:

“I invited you this evening to witness another breakthrough by troops on operation AYEM APKATUMA III

“At about 1200hrs today, we received strategic information on the movement of the dreaded bandit named Terwase Akwaza Agbadu AKA Gana along Gbese-Gboko-Makurdi road.

“Troops on operation AYEM APKATUMA III moved swiftly and mounted snap roadblocks along routs at 1300hrs, there was a meeting engagement with the convoy of the dreaded bandit AKA Gana.

“A shot out ensured and he was killed. During search, the following were recovered, Qty 5 AK 47,Qty 1 FN rifle, Qty 2 Beretta pistol, Qty3 pump action guns, Qty 1 locally fabricated submachine, Qty 10 Dane gun, Qty 19 browsing pistols, Qty 35 fabricated revolver pistols and Qty 2 fabricated mortars.”

“Other ammunition recovered, according to him, include Qty 766 rounds of 7.62mm special, Qty 27.9mm rounds, Qty 26.pump action cartridge.

Major General Moundhey Gadzama Ali  added that Qty1. Machine, Qty2 waist charms, Qty2. finger ring charms and Qty2 fabricated improvised explosives were also recovered. Adding that 40 of Gana’s men have been captured in the operation and under custody to be handed over to the civil authorities for prosecution.

Meanwhile, an anonymous has this to say –

“Gana wasn’t arrested, he gave up himself when the traditional head, catholic bishops, governor and other stakeholders promised him peace talks and amnesty.

This is a move that was celebrated, little did he know that he was going to be betrayed.

He was handed over to the military in Gboko on their way to Makurdi. He and his boys were unarmed and were being escorted by mobile police men sent by the governor.

The military claimed he was shot in a gun battle which is a white lie, how can someone unarmed engage in a gun battle?

Even if they didn’t want to have peace talks they should have tried him in court before killing him.

I guess they were afraid he was going to expose their secrets so the decided to silence him.

I pray another Boko Haram doesn’t emanate from this action!

CORROBORATION

Ortom on Tuesday said he got a call that Gana was arrested in Gboko and immediately reached out to the army authorities.

The governor wondered why the army would arrest Gana because the security agencies are aware of the state government’s amnesty programme.

“It was around 4pm when we were waiting for the repentant militias that I received a call that Gana and others have been arrested close to Yandev roundabout in Gboko by soldiers,” he said.

“Many of the repentant militias had weapons in which they were bringing to surrender to us. The process of the amnesty programme was known to the security operatives, so I don’t know why they have to be arrested.

“Immediately I got the information, I contacted the commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, General Yekini, who told me that they were carrying out an operation and promised to get back to me, so I am still waiting for him.”

Major General Moundhey Gadzama Ali says that Gana ’s corpse had been deposited in an undisclosed hospital mortuary.
