The authority at Yewa South Local Government (YSLG) in Ogun State has promised to continue giving adequate support to the physically challenged and indigents across the Council Area.

The Local Government Transition Chairman, Alhaji Ramon Fagbenro made the promise while distributing palliative items provided by a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Lovelyn Empowerment Foundation (LEF), to assist the vulnerable group in the area.

The Chairman, represented by the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Haruna Dada, appreciated the NGO for supporting the less privileged, especially at this period of COVID-19, urging the people in the area to always obey rules set by the government, to curb the spread of coronavirus, just as the Council would not relent at carrying out activities that would positively impact the lives of the vulnerable.

Also speaking, the founder of the NGO, Engr. Lovelyn Ekuma, while giving out the palliative items, comprising foodstuff and face masks, noted that the donation was her own way of celebrating Democracy Day, to alleviate the hardship confronting people with special needs, especially at this pandemic period.

Her words, “what we are doing is actually to support the Government. We all know that they have been doing a lot but, it’s very difficult for the government to cover all nooks and crannies of the communities. So, as individuals, we should contribute our quota by channeling resources and intellect towards relieving the most affected”.

While imploring the beneficiaries to look beyond the negative effect of the pandemic and improve themselves to better their lives, Ekuma charged philanthropists to assist the vulnerable in the society.

Appreciating the kind gesture of the NGO, the Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of the Blind, Yewa South Chapter, Miss Moturayo Lasisi, said the palliative would go a long way to cushion the effect of the lockdown on the beneficiaries, calling on other NGOs and individuals to emulate Engr. Ekuma, while advising the public to adhere strictly to rules guiding the spread of COVID’19, as stipulated by the government and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

She pleaded with members of the State House of Assembly to give speedy passage to the “Disability Right Bill” for the Governor’s accent, to enable the group enjoy what their counterparts are enjoying.
