Mr Osita Reuben Agina (OYINATUMBA) SUMMIT ON DRUG ABUSE, CYBER CRIME, CULTISM AMONG YOUTHS.

Mr Osita Reuben Agina (OYINATUMBA), a Police Supernumerary Superintendent and the founder of Osita Reuben Agina Foundation, is set to hold a summit on Drug Abuse, Cyber Crime and Cultism among Youths in Anambra State and Nigeria as a whole.

Perplexed by the report released by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in collaboration with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) which reported that 14.3 million people, about 14 per cent of the population in Nigeria mostly young people abused drugs in the past one year and having identified the correlation between illicit drug use, cyber crime and the worsening insecurity in the country with its attendant effects on the youths, Mr Osita Reuben Agina (OYINATUMBA) is set to hold a National security and Youth summit in Anambra State with a view to raising awareness among the youths on the dangers that are inherent in the use of illicit drug, indulgence in cyber crime and the worsening insecurity challenges in Nigeria.

Osita Reuben Agina (OYINATUMBA) wondered that Nigerians fail to ask the question, why most people who abuse drugs find it difficult to quit.

In most cases, hardened criminals don’t value the lives of their victims. With bare modicum of pity, they rape, maim, starve and kill their victims. The only time criminals show remorse is when they are arrested and not under the influence of drugs.

OYINATUMBA Identified the youth as the target for the production of illicit substances as cannabis remains the most widely used illicit substance among the youths, making them more vulnerable to drugs, crime, as well as health and development related challenges.

He noted that the high level of violent crimes among the young people is a potential for escalation in violence as a result of drug abuse together with other violent crimes which are detrimental to the overall well-being of society, as it undermines the basic tenets of citizens’ expectations as regards their safety and security of life.

According to Amb Timothy Nwachukwu, Media Aide to OYINATUMBA, having vowed to arrest the ugly situation which has the capacity to truncate the future of the younger generation if it remained uncheckmated, Mr. Osita Reuben Agina Foundation is set to collaborate with the Nigeria Police, the National Drug Law enforcement Agencies, The National Orientation Agency, Religious organisation and The Educational institutions among others to hold an encompassing summit which will touch very vital areas which include illicit drug use, cyber crime, cultism which are bedevilling the Nigerian Youths.
