“NAME THE NATIONAL THEATRE IN LAGOS AFTER FELA,” is a current petition being signed on iPetitions.
According to the petition started by Monday Agbonze, Fela’s “fight for freedom, justice, equity, human right, civil liberty,” and so on is enough reason to give life to the dying theater.
It states,
Fela’s unparalleled lifelong sacrifice in the fight for freedom, justice, equity, human right, civil liberty, as well as his fearless and uncompromising stance against corruption and the looting of Nigeria’s treasury…even to his own detriment and the detriment of his family, makes him more than deserving of this honor.
During his time a governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode promised to reconstruct the National Theatre and others accross the state but never made his second term.
“The National theatre is not really functioning at the moment, Fela deserves a better place. On the second thought asking for a better or functioning place for fela will be a dead on arrival request,” says Owolabi Longe.
“Fela Anikulapku Ransom-Kuti National theater!” says Okri.
