NANS FELICITATES WITH GOVERNOR SEYI MAKINDE ON ONE YEAR IN OFFICE, DESCRIBES HIM AS A TRAIL BLAZER.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) felicitates with Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State as he celebrates 1year in office.

NANS describes Gov. Makinde as a Trail Blazer in an article published by Comr. Oladoja Mubaraq (MegaByte), Secretary General, NANS South West Zone.

“When the news broke that Seyi Makinde had emerged winner of the April 9, 2019 governorship election in Oyo State, it was no doubt a huge relief for many of the people of the State who were genuinely desirous of a change of the narrative.

Consequently, hundreds of Oyo State citizens defied the rains and trooped out to the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan, the State capital, to witness the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Executive Governor of the State.

However, Governor Seyi Makinde, fondly called GSM by his supporters and people of the State, was not carried away by the euphoria of the victory as he was well prepared and ready to hit the ground running from the first blast of the whistle on May 29, 2019.

In his inaugural speech shortly after being sworn-in, GSM did not mince words in articulating his direction for governance and humane disposition to the peoples’ plight.

He said his government would thrive on a four-point agenda of improved healthcare delivery, sound and competitive educational sector, safe and stable polity through the enthronement of a security architecture that ensures safety; and the creation of a robust economic expansion programme that would soon become the envy of others.

He said of himself, “My life is a long-distance race. I run, mostly not for fame or fortune but for a cause. I know this concept might be alien to a lot of people. In my over five decades on earth, I have met many people whose only goal in life is to become wealthy and famous. I have also seen how unhappy some of them have turned out to be.”

Interestingly, many of the challenges faced by the Seyi Makinde-led administration in the last 100 days have turned to stepping stones and ladders to greatness, and his government stabilised by years of thorough preparedness for service, private sector secrets of success and willingness to do things right.
Virtually all the areas that can make a direct positive impact on the lives of the people, from education to economy, security, health, infrastructure and administration, have within his first 100 days of being in Office, received attention, with prospects of him doing better as time goes on.

However, to say that GSM administration has underperformed within the last few months in office is an understatement, but to say the least, with the score-card one would deduce that, although, alot is still expected from our Governor, as we shall continue to use the context of our expectations of a purposeful leadership through our lens to monitoring the strides that our amiable Governor has been underpinning.

According to GSM, “Our future in Oyo State is now. We will have a government that is accountable, transparent, productive, effective and efficient. We will move from “sick care” to the wellness of our people- through acute forces on education, health and economic prosperity so we can achieve life-changing outcomes.”
To say that Governor Seyi Makinde has, in the first 100 days of his administration, surprised many is to state the obvious. As it is, the GSM administrative network is spreading and taking deeper root in Oyo State. Hope is now rekindled for an increase in the tempo of development strides that truly impact on the lives of the people and the State.
