#NigeriaDecides2023: Atiku clears Akwa Ibom

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has won the 25 February election in Akwa Ibom State.

 

Atiku polled a total of 214,012 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Tinubu of the APC, who scored 160,620 votes.

 

Meanwhile, the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, scored 132,683 votes.

Atiku clears Akwa Ibom

The result was declared on Monday by a professor and returning officer for the state, Emmanuel Adigio.

 

According to the results collated from the 31 local government areas in the state, Atiku won in 23 local government areas while Mr Tinubu won in five local government areas.

 

Mr Obi won in three local government areas including the state capital, Uyo.

The results show that about a quarter of the total registered voters participated in the election.

 

The total number of registered voters in the state, according to INEC, is 2,357,418 but 594,450 voters were accredited for the exercise.

The total number of valid votes in the exercise was 55,089 while 32,328 votes were rejected.

 

According to the state returning officer, the total votes cast during the election was 587,417.
