Last week Friday, Governor Godwin Obaseki gifted Mrs Noragbon Enogie Osaru, who retired as the Headmistress of Emotan Primary School in 2019, a 2-bedroom bungalow at Emotan Garden City for being the best teacher in Edo state for the same year as selected by her peers. The retired teacher was filled with joy and thanked the Governor profusely.

The 2021 Award Winner of the Best Performing Teacher, Mrs Idele Benedicta, a Biology teacher in Asoro Grammar School, Benin City, was also gifted a 2-bedroom bungalow at Emotan for her diligence and hard work in her career as a teacher.

Two weeks ago, it was announced Edo state scored the highest, among all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, in last year’s WAEC exams. Also, the public schools in Edo state came at an impressive second among thousands of public schools in Nigeria.

Building on the vast success of EdoBEST, the Edo State Government began training of additional 1,446 teachers and head-teachers under the newly launched EdoBEST 2.0, which is expected to cover 306 junior secondary schools across the 3 Senatorial District of the state and cater to the needs of 31, 963 pupils.

On Friday, the Governor inaugurated the School-based Management Boards in Benin City, comprising the School-based Management Boards for the Senior Secondary School level and the School-based Management Committees at the Basic Education level.

The Nigeria Learning Passport, which was designed to complement the face-to-face learning approach and to reduce the education poverty gap in Edo State and Nigeria at large, was also launched by the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Mr. Babagana Aminu, an education specialist.

Governor Godwin Obaseki continues to make education in Edo State a basic right for every child in Edo and the 2021 WAEC stats is validation and proof of the success of EdoBEST.
