Ogun Artisans Support Govt. On Certification, Accreditation Schemes

Artisans across Ogun State have pledged their full support for government’s intervention on the certification of trainees, as well as accreditation of their workshops as training centers, in line with global best practices, to enable them fit into the labour market.

 

The artisans gave this pledge at an interactive meeting with the Special Adviser to Governor Abiodun on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa, held at Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, the State capital.

The State President, Association of Hairdresser, Mrs. Funmi Ogunkoya and Chairman, Association of Motor Mechanic, Mr. Ambrose Adedeji, appreciated the State Government for the new initiatives, while urging the government to allow them train some of their Technical students on practical aspects at their workshops for a comprehensive knowledge of their formal training.

They implored Government to accommodate their services at the State level in all technical aspects, saying they were fit for all building constructions, engineering, electrical, carpentry, among others.

In his response, Prof. Odemuyiwa, explained that the certification of the artisans would be done by the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, noting that the scheme would also help overcome inferiority complex among formally and informally trained artisans and technicians.

 

The Special Adviser intimated that the present administration in the State was keen on the welfare of artisan, as well as their craftsmanship and ready to support them compete favourably with their counterparts across the globe.
