Ogun govt. Organises workshop for Heads of hospitals

Ogun State Government through the State Hospital Management Board has organised a Day orientation workshop for newly appointed Medical Directors/Chief Executive Officers of 12 semi-autonomous hospitals under it, to expose them to the intricacies of leadership/management in the Civil Service, such as financial regulation, public service rules, team management, among others.

 

Delivering a lecture at the event, titled: “Teamwork and Leadership”, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker noted that about 50 percent of the State health care facilities were operated under secondary facilities, adding that it was important to ensure that the heads of the hospitals were in tune with clinical governance.

 

Dr. Coker said the spirit of team work among health workers would help in ensuring ethical standards required of medical practitioners for the delivery of efficient healthcare services for the people.

 

The Commissioner, in a statement signed by the Press Officer, HMB, Ms. Adebukonla Adekanmbi, explained that clinical governance is a system through which organisation are accountable for continuously improving the quality of their services and safeguarding high standards of care by creating an environment in which excellence in clinical care would flourish.

 

In his remark, the State Head of Service, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro said it was imperative to broaden the skill and knowledge of medical practitioners, to enable them align properly with the international best practices, advising the participants to reciprocate the government’s gesture with dedication to work and improved productivity.

 

In his goodwill message, the Chairman, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Isiaq Salako said the post of Medical Director/Chief Executive Officers requires a lot of managerial skills, adding that the newly appointed heads of hospitals had been extensively screened and gone through some examination before being appointed.

 

Earlier in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary in the Board, Dr. Quudus Yusuff assured of government’s support on innovations for improved capacity building and service delivery.

 

Speaking on behalf of the participants, the Medical Director, Otunba Olumayowa Olukoya Memorial Hospital, Ijebu-Ife, Dr. Olufemi Osisanmi, appreciated the State government for the privilege of the training, promising to put in their best in line with the vision of the present administration’s ‘ISEYA’ mantra.

 

Other papers presented at the workshop include, Public Service Rules: Applicability to Managers, Financial Regulations and Budgeting, Performance /Change Management.
