Ogun govt. to upgrade technical colleges for special programmes

Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has said that the present administration will upgrade the State technical colleges, to make each of them to be known for certain vocation, trade and programme.

 

Prof. Arigbabu stated this during a Stakeholders Validation Workshop for the Development of Governing and Recruitment Policy and Practices for Ogun State Technical and vocational Education Board (OGSTVEB) and Human Resources Policy for Ogun State Skills Fund, said government was taking some steps to upgrade technical schools in the State to become centres of excellence.

 

The Education Commissioner said efforts were in top gear to train artisans in order to make them efficient in their service delivery, adding that the present administration was focusing on re-engineering of curriculum and training of teachers for effective teaching of Science, Technical, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in schools.

 

“This administration is passionate about technical education and that is why we are taking steps to concentrate and upgrade our technical schools to become centres of excellence that will be known for certain vocation, certain trade and certain programme”, Arigbabu stated.

 

Speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical and Vocational Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa revealed that the State government in collaboration with Oba Sikiru Adetona College of Science and Technology, has organised a programme that would enable anyone with a Master of Craftsmanship Certificate or Ordinary Level Certificate in English and Mathematics, to proceed on one or two years programme to become a teacher, not only in technical schools but as a trade subject teacher in secondary schools.

 

In his contribution, the Board Chairman, OGSTVEB, Barr. Ilori Siwoniku said the workshop was to deliver and coordinate Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes in the State to improve on its operation.
