Ogun Parents to sign undertaking as govt fixes new date for schools resumption

Primary and secondary schools as well as technical colleges in Ogun State have been given a new date to resume for the second term.

This is as the government also mandated each parent and guardian to sign an undertaking that they would willingly abide by all laid down rules and regulations.

Instead of the earlier announced January 4th resumption date, schools are now to resume on Monday, January 10, 2022.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, had in a statement extended the holiday by one week.

Arigbabu said the new date became necessary due to a series of pre-resumption activities put up by the Education Ministry to further reposition education in the state.

Recently, some schools in Ogun State went under attack as parents and students hired thugs to brutalise teachers, who must have punished their children for any unruly behaviour.

Also, some videos went viral recently wherein young schoolgirls were seen smoking and videoing themselves.

To put an end to any deviant act in schools and technical colleges, the Ministry of Education asked students and their parents or guardians to visit their schools between January 4 and 10 to sign an undertaking of willingness to abide by the laid down rules and regulations while also supporting and enforcing discipline in schools.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Government has announced that all public and private schools below the tertiary level in the state will resume for the second term 2021/2022 academic session on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

The Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, made this known in a statement on Friday, titled, ‘Lagos public and private schools resume Tuesday, January 4, 2022, for 2nd term’.

Seriki-Ayeni noted that all students are expected back in school as academic activities start the same day.

“The Director-General wishes the students and teachers happy resumption while enjoining all school leaders to enforce strict compliance with all subsisting COVID-19 safety protocols in the state.

“School leaders should also note that the Mid-Term break for the second term is Thursday 17th and Friday 18th of February, 2022 while school closes on Friday 8th April, 2022,” the statement added.

Seriki-Ayeni enjoined boarding students to resume on Monday, January 3, 2022, in preparation for academic activities.

She added that the Office of Education Quality Assurance will monitor compliance with the resumption date in the Lagos State Unified Academic Calendar and observe the teaching and learning process in schools.
