Okada: I will love to start by saying “Whatever negativity caused by transportation in Nigeria is absolutely the fault of the government”.

The likes of “Agbero” – those guys who collect money from transporter on no supported bases are added by them, so if any transportation system will be a menace or solution it’s up to them also.

The solution to any of them depends on the level of decision the government makes.

I will love to argue strongly against the fact that Okada are menace to the society.

I am a Youth Corp member serving in Lagos, I wake up by 4am every working day and taking bike saved me three hours, thirty minutes. Before bike was banned in Lagos, I leave the house by 5: 30am and get to work 7:50am latest. After bike was banned I leave the house by 5am and get to work by 10am, and trust me, I’m always exhausted and frustrated that it makes performing my duty irritating to me.

I just stated my own story.

Before the banning of bike in Lagos; a lot of rich men and women, owners of companies often leave their cars at home for Okada and Keke to avoid traffic thereby reducing traffic but as of now, everyone now drive their car to work.

About 40% of workers in Lagos can not even function properly, some have to trek because the only means of transportation from their house to the junction is Okada.

On several occasions, lagosians have had to save their job by taking bike to work because they wake up late and then need to beat traffic – Okada becomes the job saver.

Bike of course did most wonder of ensuring you get to work early or most times you get to work just in time.

I will like to refer to what I said earlier 6 “If bike will be a menace or solution” can only be decided by the government.

But to the citizens, everyone of us know that bike is a traffic solution because people die by car accident, in fact car, buses, marcopolo are worse when it come to endangering the lives of the citizens; these means of transportation carry more people which poses more lives to danger in case of accident while bike is just three and worse case scenario.

The government need to know how to strike a balance between all forms of transportation.

All of them are risky! The most important factor is the driver and their method of driving. This is what need to be fixed.
