If you want really Short Box Braids, you will need to grow your hair for about a year.

 

If you want box braids that hangs down to your cheeks or chin, you need approximately three years worth of growth (or longer if you’re starting from a shaved head).

 

Of course, you don’t have to wait that long if you opt for extensions. To attach extensions, you need about 4 inches (10 cm) of hair or a little less depending on the skill of your stylist.
