Oredo LGA revs up sensitisation campaign in markets, other public places

Oredo LGA, Edo State: As part of efforts to complement the Edo State Government’s fight against the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), more local government councils across the state have kicked off sensitisation and enlightenment campaigns on precautionary measures against the spread of the infectious disease.


Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Edo State and Chairman Oredo Local Government Area (LGA), Hon. Jenkins Osunde, led other executive members of his cabinet, on a sensitisation tour to various markets in the council to educate the people on safety measures, as well as other guidelines put in place by the state government through the Ministry of Health to check the spread of COVID-19.

 

Speaking to journalists in Benin City, after sensitising traders at Payne Primary School, Osunde expressed delight, noting that government’s directives regarding the precautionary measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19 have been strictly adhered to by the traders.


He said, “I appreciate the people for complying with government’s directives especially on wearing facemasks, regular handwashing, social distancing and the use of sanitisers.”

Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria, (ALGON), Edo State and Chairman Oredo Local Government Area (LGA), Hon. Jenkins Osunde, addressing traders during the sensitisation tour to markets in the council.

“Today, we are out here to sensitise the traders on the prevention of COVID-19. We are also here to inform them that screening has commenced in ten centres in Oredo. Our councillors, political appointees, health educators are helping us spread the message in the 12 wards in the council area”.


The Head Education Officer of Oredo LGA, Benedicta Onobun, urged residents to adhere to the mandatory facemask policy, and comply with other government directives against the spread of the virus.

 

President of Traders Welfare Union, Comrade Lucky Orukpe, thanked the governor for the various steps taken in curtailing the spread of COVID-19. He specifically commended the governor for not totally shutting down the state, but allowing traders go about their daily businesses.


Mrs. Ngozi Chikezie and Egbe Mercy who are traders at Payne Primary School, Benin City, commended the chairman for the sensitisation, reassuring that they will adhere to the state government’s directives, aimed at curtailing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
