Over 20 people injured as gas explosion rocked Ilorin popular fuel station

 

 

 

 

No fewer than 20 people Wednesday sustained serious injuries following a gas explosion that rocked popular Ilorin filling station, Bovas.

 

The incident according to newsmen checks happened at the company’s filling station at Offa Garage, Ilorin and saw many people around the area scampering to safety .

 

Speaking with newsmen, a bread seller close to the filling station, Mrs. Iyabo Olorunnisola, said “The explosion happened around some minutes to 11 a.m and we just heard a loud bang and smoke taking over the whole filling station and we all scampered to safety not knowing what was happening”.

 

She said, “In the ensuing melee, several people sustained bruises, while some of those in the filling station like hawkers, petrol attendants and those buying fuel were injured” .

She however called on the management of filling stations in the state to always provide insurance cover for their workers who may sustain serious injuries during any incident in the station.

 

Also, a shop owner, Mr. Azeez Iyiola who spoke with our correspondent on the incident said “The explosion was from the commercial gas plant located inside the filling station.

 

“It was dispensing and suddenly exploded, it was however immediately brought under control, although several people sustained varying degrees of injury”.
