Government of the state of Osun says traders in the largest market in the state (Atakunmosa market in Ilesa) will soon heave a sigh of relief and smile again as genuine effort will be put in place to restore the loss glory of the market .
Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Industry and Empowerment, Dr Olabode Olaonipekun and his Works and transport counterpart, Engineer Oluremi Omowaiye gave the assurance while on an on the spot assessment of the market on Saturday .The duo who spoke onbehalf of the Governor of Osun , Mr Gboyega Oyetola said reviving the Atakumosa Market and Sabo Market Ilesa is on the top priority list of the Government of Osun
The two commissioners had gone to the market on the order of Governor Gboyega Oyetola sequel to the visit of the market leaders to the speaker Osun House of Assembly, Right Honourable Timothy Owoeye few days ago.
Traders in the market had said the fire outbreak that razed over three hundreds of stalls in the market about five years ago has turned the market square into rodents abode, as majority of the traders now display their wares on roadsides leading to the market.
Those who stayed back in the market complained of lack of sales, saying all they do is open their stalls and sleep from morning till evening when they will close as people no longer enter the market to shop.
Confirming this development, the Iyaloja of Atakunmosa, Mrs Olabisi Hannah Awe, said government needs to intervene swiftly by renovating and upgrading the market to a modern standard, adding that this will boost government’s internally generated revenue.
Meanwhile, Dr Olabode Olaonipekun and his Works and transport counterpart, Engineer Oluremi Omowaiye however said a comprehensive report will go to the Governor on Sunday 15th Dec for an immediate and swift action in rebuilding the two markets in the State of Osun
