Plane crash-lands in Ikeja Lagos; Not true says LASEMA, FAAN, LASEMA

Lagos State residents were left in awe on Tuesday evening after spotting a big plane on Agege-Ikeja motor road.

The uncommon development caused heavy traffic on the road as motorists could not pass through the route at the time.

There were speculations that the plane had suffered a mishap on Tuesday night.

Videos shared on social media showed the plane causing miles-long traffic congestion.

The airplane which did not appear marked became a center of attraction on the Agege Motor Road near the busy Ikeja Along Bus Stop.

Reports suggest that the plane allegedly crash-landed around 8:33 p.m. while some others said it was being towed to a repair workshop near the airport.

Mac Henry wrote: “I just saw a plane crash around Ikeja along.”

Another, Adedayo (@lollydeee) wrote: “There’s a plane on Ikeja along”.

Ms Petite (@Un_botherd) added: “I don’t know what happened but I saw the plane on my way home this evening around 7:30 pm.

“It is at Ikeja Along inside the FAAN territory”.

However, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria rebutted the report.

In a statement, FAAN said: “The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria would like to inform the general public to disregard the news making the rounds on social media about an alleged crash at Ikeja Airport.

“The aircraft was sold by the owner to a buyer, who was taking it to its final destination”, the agency said in a Facebook post.

Also dismissing the plane crash, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, Lagos Terrorial Head of National Emergency Management Agency said he reached out to control towers and other relevant sections in the aviation industry but they all said the incident didn’t happen.

He added, “The Control Tower could not confirm and no plane is missing on the TRACON. It is pertinent to clear the rumour going round on the purported plane crash landing around Ikeja with a obscuring footage in a crowded traffic scene.

“After due consultations with all critical stakeholders and tracking of all incoming and outgoing flights in Lagos, there is no plane missing so far.”

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), has also debunked the reports.

The agency officials noted that “nothing of such happened” when contacted on the telephone.
