Pride and the Bride

How bad economy now creates outrageous marriage lists

Pride and the bride

by Chidiebere A. Okoroji, M.Ed

It’s a sorry state,
My very honest rates,
Imagine the one that’s rarest,
Taking no distractions,
Taking all my attention,
With that charming attraction,
But pride, the bride rides.

It was fate,
Before even the date,
They said I will marry late,
So I took the narrow gate,
Pride hurts,
My heart rust,
I made it worst,
Because I lost,
I hated losing.

The pride and the bride, and the breach,
My very destination I couldn’t reach,
My neck so long like an ostrich,
Probably, because I wasn’t rich,
Or, she’s just a common bitch,
This river, this tears, this beach,
One for two and all for each,
This sermon, this pastor, don’t preach,
I hate I’m now a lesson!

There is always lies in goodbyes,
We couldn’t stand the truth,
We don’t want to start from the root,
We coined it and say we’re youths,
Youth doing evil and exploits,
The pride and the bride, a mess!
Everything that I miss,
And you could’ve become my Mrs,
Instead you chose to be a Ms.
