Professor Lai Muhammed to start “Change to Build the Nation” campaign as he visits “Alaroye” and “Iroyin Owuro”.

The minister of Information and Culture, Professor Lai Muhammed, on the recent oversight, on the roles of Media and Culture in the society,  visited the duo indigenous newspapers: “Alaroye” and “Iroyin Owuro”, on Friday, 26th February.

The minister, in an open-address with the proprietors of the newspapers, explained that, the current collaboration with indigenous  newspapers, would be to fully informe the people about the policies and programmes of government, especially in the areas of fighting corruption and insurgency.

 

“Chief Obafemi Awolowo has made money in government, he has been forgotten today. For years, different people recognize the powerful structure, all that we need and work for. We want that licence to be able to sustain information building”, he said.

 

Furthermore, he laid emphasis on education via campaign, in which he made known that “we are going to start to campaign with education which we call ‘change to build the nation’. That campaign will not be effective, if about 50 million Nigerians are not aware.

 

He therefore praised the management and staff of the duo newspapers outfits and stretched the need for indigenous newspapers to be patronized always to enable them  sustain their production.

 

The managing director and publisher, Alaroye newspaper, Mr Alao Adebayo said the minister’s visit was a clear indication that the present administration is committed to promote indigenous languages and culture.

 

Mr Alao conclusively added, “despite the fact that we have been here for a very long time, Alaroye is 20 years old in existence. We mustn’t restrict any government official coming to us, especially in this capacity.”

 

“So your coming shows a high level of commitment to the promotion of indigenous languages”.
