Senate may retain Professor Mahmood Yakubu as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for a second term by 1st December after he got recommended by President Mummhad Buhari.

Senate leader, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi of All Progressives Congress, APC, Kebbi North read the letter from President Buhari on the floor of the Upper Chamber of the senate house confirming his nomination of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu for Appointment as INEC Chairman, requesting that his recommendation be considered in accordance to the provision of Section 154(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (amended) maybe reappointed.

Lawan referred the names to the Committee on INEC lead Senator Kabiru Gaya, APC, Kano South led Senate Committee on INEC to carry out legislative actions by screening the Nominee, Zuru and Yakubu to submit the report at Plenary on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

Having just completed five-year tenure as the INEC chairman Yakubu is again nornimated.
