Real Madrid win 34th LaLiga title – Two Karim Benzema goals did it!

Real Madrid have emerged as the new LaLiga champions following their 2-1 victory over Villarreal on Thursday night and its all thanks to Karim Benzema and the team at large.

A win which has been described as the longest LaLiga Santander season

Zinedine Zidane’s men went into Thursday’s tie knowing a victory over the Yellow Submarine would seal their first title in three years and with two goals from Karim Benzema they secured and an astonishing 34th La Liga title.

Benzema put Madrid 1-0 ahead just before the half-hour mark before scoring what was his 21st goal from the penalty spot in the second half.

Though Samuel Chukwueze’s Villarreal did pull a goal back, it was not enough to either delay or spoil the party for Real Madrid.

This LaLiga title is Zidane’s 11th trophy during his managerial reign at the club.

It is also Madrid’s first league title since Cristiano Ronaldo left to join Juventus two seasons ago.

While it was all celebration for Real Madrid, their fierce rivals Barcelona slumped to a shock 2-1 defeat at Nou Camp against Osasuna.

The circumstances surrounding this win have made Real Madrid’s 34th LaLiga title the most unique in their history. Even in these strange times, it has been achieved with values steeped in the club for decades – solidarity, sacrifice and team spirit.

The Frenchman’s (Benzema) powerful low strike in the 29th minute put the hosts in control and Benzema extended Real’s lead by firing in a retaken penalty in the 76th minute at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.

The original spot-kick taken by Sergio Ramos was chalked off as he bizarrely attempted to pass it to Benzema, who ran into the box before referee Hernandez Hernandez blew his whistle.

Substitute Vicente Iborra scored a powerful header late on (86) for the visitors and substitute Marco Asensio had a goal chalked off by VAR in injury-time, but Real still emerged title winners as second-placed Barcelona lost 2-1 to Osasuna.

Madrid head into their final game with a commanding seven-point lead.

Amongst all the talk of VAR and penalties, Zidane and his players remained calm as Real Madrid showed strength and versatility.

The French coach deployed different systems, using wingers, five midfielders and four attackers on occasion.

In the end, after 11 months, Los Blancos came out on top as the strongest team, mentally and physically, and, above all, the best team.

Real Madrid will play their final game of the 19/20 season at Leganes.
