RHESUS FACTOR, INCOMPATIBILITY & COMPLICATIONS/DISEASES

Rhesus Factor is that Protein buildup on the surface of the Red Blood Cell (RBC), you would be declared Rhesus positive (Rh +) if the protein buildup is present on your RBC and, Rhesus negative (Rh -) if it’s not after blood group and genotype test is done on your blood samples.

 

Rhesus incompatibility is when a Rh + father marries Rh – mother, it portends a sleek danger to their child bearing especially because every unborn baby or fetus would be Rh + (Rh + is dominant). The blood of the pregnant mother and that of the baby (fetus or during delivery) MUST not come in contact with the other because it is incompatible.

 



Rhesus complications or diseases happen when Rhesus incompatibility is not taken care of.

These complications are:
1) eventual Stillbirth or Stillborn
2) jaundice
3) lethargy
4) anemia
5) low muscle tone in baby
6) brain damage of baby – kernicterus
7) abnormality in baby’s mental functions,movement, hearing and speech
8) heart failure
9) organ enlargement – liver and spleen
10) eventual death of baby.
