Music star, Robyn Fenty popularly known as Rihanna, has announced the release of her new single, the first after a six-year hiatus from the music industry.

Rihanna, who has in the past years focused on her thriving fashion and beauty empire, will be releasing “Lift Me Up”, a soundtrack to Marvel movie, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’

Rihanna teased a video of the track via her Twitter page on Wednesday, and captioned the post, “Lift me up. 10.28.2022.”

Rihanna co-wrote “Lift Me Up” with Nigeria’s Tems; music producer, Ludwig Göransson; and Black Panther’s director, Ryan Coogler, Billboard reports.

The track which will be released on November 4, was written as a tribute to the lead star of the first Black Panther film, Chadwick Boseman, who died in 2020 at the age of 43.

In a press statement, Tems said, “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life.

“I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them.

“Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”

Tems had earlier featured on one of the movie’s soundtracks, with her rendition of Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry.”

Rihanna has not released any project since she dropped her album, Anti, in 2016. Her most recent work, is a short chorus on PARTYNEXTDOOR’s Believe it, releases in 2020.

Set to hit theatres by November 11, 2022, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the much anticipated sequel to the 2018 Black Panther film.

Aside from a guest spot on PartyNextDoor’s 2020 single ‘Believe It’, the singer was last heard on her 2016 album ‘Anti’. She’s consistently teased new music over the past six years, though, and next February, she’ll return to the stage to headline the halftime show at the 2023 Super Bowl.
