Robbers on Wednesday invaded an Assemblies of God church in Abakaliki, raped a lady, and shot another on her lap, TheNation reports.
The youths, belonging to the drama wing of the church, were said to be having an all-night rehearsal in preparation for a drama program slated for Friday when they were attacked by hoodlums.
A source said while they raped one of the girls, they shot another, who resisted attempts to have carnal knowledge of her, on the lap.
The robbers also reportedly stole some equipment belonging to the church after the movements.
Other youths in the same programme were said to have ran away during the incident.
Some elders in the church confirmed the report.
“Yes what you heard is true, we were called this morning to be notified on the incident, however, we will not be able to give you all the details you require now”, said one of them who pleased anonymity.
“Our pastor who is in charge of this place is not available now, he stayed awake all through the night that this thing happened and he is down now.
“However the matter has been reported to the police and the girls have been taken to hospital for treatment,” he said.
