“Senator Akpabio has no case at the EFCC” – ETIM ETIM

In my personal capacity as an Akwa Ibom citizen and a friend of Senator Godswill Akpabio, I wish to express my disappointment at the Statement made by Prof. Itse Sagay, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption (PACAC).

The learned professor, a lawyer of high repute, had said that the President should not have nominated Senator Akpabio as Minister because he (Akpabio) has a case with the EFCC.

It is heartening to note that the Akwa Ibom state state Chapter of the APC had debunked this allegation. I will therefore other well-meaning Akwa Ibom people to state categorically that Senator Akpabio does not have any case with the EFCC or any other anti graft agency.

It is true that a petition was filed against the Senator at the EFCC by an Abuja-based lawyer, Leo Ekpenyong, soon after Senator Akpabio left office as our state Governor in 20I5. These cases were thoroughly investigated by the agency.

The Petitioner then withdrew the Petition when he could not substantiate his allegations and the EFCC could not establish the veracity of the allegations in the petition.

I believe that Prof. Sagay is patently wrong in his assertion about the nomination of Senator Akpabio. Maybe the Prof is being misled by those who believe that denigrating the senator is an avenue for their elevation. Certainly, Prof Itse Sagay is has been misinformed. He should please withdraw his earlier statement.

Once again I congratulate Senator Akpabio on this well deserved nomination and I wish to thank the President for choosing a capable and consummate politician and leader as a minister of the federal republic.
