  • Eating fish: Some Christians believe that eating meat on the anniversary of Christ’s death may represent eating His flesh, so fish comes to the rescue.

  • Until 2008, gambling was banned in Britain on Good Friday.

 

 

  • Also in the United Kingdom, horse racing was banned on Good Friday until 2014.

 

  • In Ireland, sale of alcohol was banned on Good Friday for almost a century until a new law was passed in 2018.

 

  • In Germany, Christians ban dancing on Good Friday and even nightclub capital, Berlin has restrictions in place until 9pm.

 

  • Interestingly, Good Friday is not a public holiday in Italy, as it is seen as a solemn day for reflection.

 

Good Friday is celebrated to commemorate the day Jesus Christ was crucified. It is considered holy because on this day Jesus Christ sacrificed his life out of love for everyone and while suffering for the sins of humanity. On the occasion of Good Friday, people wish one another strength and happiness.

 

 

Good Friday is observed on the Friday just before Easter every year. This year Good Friday is on April 2. The Easter celebration will begin on the following Sunday, April 4.
