TINUBU’S HOLD ON LAGOS POLITICS: THE PLACE OF MC OLUOMO AND HIS ARMY OF THUGS

TINUBU'S HOLD ON LAGOS POLITICS: THE PLACE OF MC OLUOMO AND HIS ARMY OF THUGS

MC Oluomo heads a Mafia-like organisation made up of thousands of AGBEROs in Lagos State.

For the purpose of concept identification in this paper, “Agberos”, by occupational definition, are violent extortionists who operate at bus stops and motor parks in Lagos State and other states of the Nigerian federation, especially within the Yorùbá enclave of South-Western Nigeria. They are usually touts, who can be very mean, dangerous, uncouth, violent, unconventional, excessive drinkers of alcoholic beverages, marijuana smokers, and, more often than not, individuals who are on the radar of security personnel as persons of interest in crime prevention and investigation.

In Lagos State, they have formed themselves into a multi-million dollar-generating racketeering syndicate in the transport industry of the economic and industrial capital of the nation of Nigeria. But for the services they offer Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political family during elections, these criminals who are as deadly and mean as the Dons and Family Members of the fearsome Sicilian Mafia and its American offshoots have no place in our society.

It is irresponsible of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and his team to have elevated a criminal, like MC Oluomo, who presides over an extortionist empire where leadership takeover wars are usually prosecuted with deadly weapons at the end of which there are usually multiple casualties, to a height he occupies presently in Lagos State as the Chairman of Lagos State Parks and Garages Management Committee with PhD holders, seasoned technocrats, a former Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of police (Olusegun Odumosu) and other responsible members of the society reporting to him!

If you are a keen social researcher, you would have withnessed occasions where agents of MC Oluomo and his then “NURTW” Executive Council Members, now Managers of Lagos State’s Parks Management Executive Committees, who share territories, called “Motor Parks” among themselves, ASSAULT hardworking public transportation workers in Lagos, with their customary belligerent shouts of “Owo mi da?” in Yoruba Language, which is translated, “Where is my money?”

The symbiotic relationship between Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Oluomo-led fee-racketeering criminal gangs in the transport industry of Lagos State is a modern adaptation of some of the time-tested principles of power contained in Machiavellianism. Tinubu needs these criminals to win elections in Lagos State, so he has given them the multi-billion dollar Lagos State transport industry as their fiefdom where they operate like kings in their own right. If you know the staggering millions of Naira these economic parasites extort from Lagos transport workers on a daily basis, then you will agree with me that they are kings indeed. Only an enemy of the common man, walking in the steps of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (Rtred), the self-acclaimed Evil Genius, could have unleashed these vermin on Lagosians.

The above facts constitute the main planks of my opposition to the presidential ambition of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His ways and methods are not good enough for the health and welfare of the society. The era of deployment of crude and immoral methodologies in the quest for capturing and retaining state power is over. Twenty four years of uninterrupted practice of democracy after the end of military dictatorship should be enough to do away with Godfather politics that is the natural forte of individuals like Atiku Abubakar, Bola Tinubu, James Ibori, Umar Ganduje, Kashim Shettima, Orji Uzor Kalu, Nasir el-Rufai, Nyesom Wike, Rauf Aregbesola, Adams Oshiomhole, Ibikunle Amosun, Olusegun Mimiko, Ayo Fayose, and emerging Godfathers like Rotimi Akeredolu, Kayode Fayemi, Seyi Makinde, and the rest of the serving Governors who are wont to breaking the laws of the land in ensuring that their anointed candidates win at the polls.

The same goes for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who often hides behind the facade of powerful members of the Presidency to break the laws of the land by using the Nigeria Police Force, EFCC, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, the armed forces, DSS, Nigerian Ports Authority, NDLEA, Nigeria Civi Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other agencies of Government to perpetuate acts of illegality before and during elections. This is the so-called “Federal Might”.

For instance, during the 2019 General Elections, MC Oluomo thugs were used to create a sense of breakdown of law and order in areas that have significant Igbo population so that the Easterners could be hindered from exercising their electoral rights. This and other under-hand methods of winning elections at all costs must not cross Year 2022 with us into year 2023.
