Human Rights Lawyer, Babaleye, Petitions Senate over Missing Funds in Ondo

Human Rights lawyer, Tolu Babaleye, has petitioned the Nigerian Senate over the missing N4.3 billion in the administration of Ondo State government led by Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN).

The petition was read during the plenary on Wednesday by Chairman Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, representing Ondo Central.

The Politico had reported that there has been uneasy calm in the state over the missing fund.

The controversy started when the Ondo State House of Assembly commenced an investigation into the N4.3 billion claimed to have been recovered from an alleged secret account in a commercial bank.

The Chairman of the State House Committee on Public Accounts, Edamisan Ademola, has told newsmen that the assembly directed the committee to investigate the source of the secret account.

While reading the petition on Wednesday, Akinyelure drew the attention of the Senate to the petition from Tolu Babaleye Esq against Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc on behalf of concerned citizens of Ondo state.

He said, “the petition against the Managing Director and top management staff of Zenith bank plc for deliberate connivance with some syndicate in the Ondo state government for fraudulent concealment of over N4Billion investment in fund placement of fixed deposit plus accrued interest from successive administrations in Ondo State kept in account No: 01031126205 for over 10 years belonging to Ondo State government in an account domiciled with Zenith bank plc, Alagbaka branch, Akure. Akinyelure urged the Senate to look into the matters.

The petition was laid and referred to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition to report within the next four weeks.
